Words have power

Hello my lovlies!  Last week I posted about a Word for the Year and a Thought for the Year.   How are yours going? I’d love to hear what you have chosen, and of course, the WHY behind them.  The why is where the really good stuff happens.

What I didn’t mention was it is so important to pick the right words.  For your Word or Thought to focus on this year.  But it’s also important with the words you use every day.  Your personal dictionary.

One of the words that saddens me the most is JUST.

I’m JUST me.  Oh, honey, you are so much more than that.

I just make cards.  I just sew stuff.  I just make jewellery.  No, no no!  It’s so much more than that.  Words have power.  They effect the way you think and act and feel.  And the right words can make such a big difference.

Need some inspiration?  Still looking for ideas for your Word for the Year?  Need to give yourself the courage to go after that big, wild, crazy dream this year?

Mayi Carles – She says she is building a Creative Empire.  I have borrowed that for my Word for the Year.  So much better than “I’m gonna try to sell some stuff on Etsy”, right?  Watch one of her videos – you can’t help but be excited.  Her writing is the same.  She bounces off the walls.  After a pep talk from her, you feel invincible.  That’s what you want.

Danielle LaPorte – In her book The Fire Starter Sessions, she asks if you want to be good or if you want to be a supernova.  Good sounds average.  Capable.  Just enough.  A ‘C’ on your report card.  Who wouldn’t rather be a Supernova?  That sounds awesome.   Superhero capes and a whirlwind of fabulous.  Another word I am using for my Word for the Year.  (Yeah, I can’t help myself – I’ve got more than one Word for the Year).

Are you are going after your big, wild, crazy dream this year?  Is this the year you say it’s now or never?

Don’t kinda, sorta, maybe give it a go.

Go charging after it and kick some butt.

Words have power.  Choose yours.

Coral.  xo

I’ve never thought about the sapping power of “just,” but you’re so right! I wonder now how often I say or think it. I’ll have to try to pay attention. Thanks 🙂

Words are so important. Saying “Just” devalues everything. We play down what we do, what we are working towards and who we are. And yet we will cheer on our family or bestest friends like Olympic gold medal cheerleaders. We need to choose words that make us excited, that give us courage, that make us feel like we can make that big wild, crazy dream happen. Fierce. Brave. Unstoppable. Invincible. I can just feel that 2013 is going to be a big year, especially for us creative bunnies. The right words are going to make it even better.

Great post. I’ve heard you talk about a word for the year and I’m struggling to come up with a meaningful one. I also love the idea of a thought or quote for the year. I can always count of you for encouraging words. I don’t want to ‘just’ try, I want to conquer and accomplish this year. I want more – I need to really think about the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of what I want for 2013.

Thanks – my next post will be to give you my word and quote/thought for 2013.

Oh, you might have chosen your word without knowing it – Conquer. I like that one. More (in a good way) is another juicy one. I made a list and went with the ones that really clicked. That put a fire in my belly and made me feel invincible. I can’t pick just one though – can’t help myself. If you still aren’t sure, I’ve seen someone doing a word for the month because they couldn’t choose just one.

Can’t wait to hear what you have decided on! Love hearing what other people have chosen and why.

PS – Stay tuned for the newsletter (I know you are signed up *wink*). I’ll be sending something on ‘Your Why’ very soon.
