So many questions. So many ideas. So many choices.
So many things to think about.
Plastic or Paper? Handmade or Corporate? Just Packaging or Storage too? What Colours?
Wrappings and Ribbons and Tags and Things.
I’ve looked for some packaging I thought was “the one” and have had a less than stellar response. One manufacturer even said what I was looking for was something they hadn’t made for 25 years. I could almost hear them laughing as they wrote it. Hmmm. Not quite what I had been hoping for. I was kinda hoping for “woo woo – we’ve got exactly what you are looking for. We can’t wait to be a part of your business”
I thought I had a clear idea on what I wanted. Then I watched some You Tube videos about CHA 2012. I saw some great packaging and it got me thinking all over again. Argh!
I’ve bought a few things on Etsy recently, and while I was super excited to get my order, I was also really interested to see how they packaged it. What are other people doing? What were my expectations as I opened the package? What would I have been excited to discover?
So back to the drawing board. Thinking of ideas and options and costs and branding. Getting ideas from other companies. Developing something that is a signature style. Something unique.
I actually thought this was going to be one of the easy parts of starting a creative business. A simple process. A simple choice. And for some businesses maybe it is. But after doing the brand coaching with Andrea (here, here & here), I realize how important it is. Not just for my potential customers. Not just for what it can do to for my business. But I’m discovering how important it is to me to include the packaging as part of my branding and the experience people will have with my business.
I want it to be a signature part of my business look. I want it to be an important part of the overall experience for my customers. And I want it to be something I will be proud of. I want it to be a special part of my business when so many other businesses don’t think of it as important.
And so, the search continues….
