There is no better time to start than now
There is no better place to start than here
This is one of my favourite sayings. I was thinking about this today on my drive home from work. When I first wanted to start my creative business years ago:
- The internet was in it’s infancy.
- There weren’t many blogs around.
- It wasn’t common to have a home computer.
- My internet access was at my Mum’s house. Dial-up!!
- There was no Etsy or Ebay and people were scared of on-line shopping.
- Websites were expensive and only “big” companies had them.
Oh, how times have changed.
Now, many of us have access to the internet at home on home computers and laptops. Wi-Fi access is available in cafes and restaurants. We have iPads. We even have internet access on our phones!
Now, every man and his dog (and every girl and her cat) has a blog. Blogs on being a parent, food and recipe blogs, fashion blogs, blogs for every type of hobby and interest you could think of (and some you would never think of in a million years). Now, blogs are totally free and can take only minutes to set up !
Many of us have at least one computer in our house, some of us have more than one. The internet connects through thin air with wi-fi – no more screeching noises as it connects. And the pages load almost instantly.
We have eBay, Etsy, Made It and many other online places to buy and sell art artistic wares. We buy from these sites without a second thought. Forget being scared and un-trusting of online shopping – now we love it!
One of the most exciting things we have access to at the moment is our own websites. It is no longer just for the “Big Boys” of business. For a small investment, we can have a knock out website all our own. One with our own unique stamp on it – one that truly represents who we are and what we do.
So what is the point of all this?
We have fast and easy access to millions of people all around the world – people who “get” us. Who “get” what we do. People who want to know us and buy from us.
So there really is no better time to start than now.
